Danielle Boni Claverie announced her candidacy for the next presidential elections in October 2020. The announcement was made on Saturday, August 1, 2020, during the congress of her political party Union Républicaine pour la Démocratie (URD) in the town of Cocody in the Belle Côte hotel.
“I am not the first woman to run for president, some have done so before, but did not understand the gist of the fight. Men have failed so it is up to us women to take up the torch to rebuild our country,” she explained.
By agreeing to go to the competition, the former Minister of Information Akissi Danielle Boni Claverie thus becomes the first female candidate to run for the presidential election on Saturday, October 31, 2020.
Although a small party, the Republican Union for Democracy (UDR) relies on Boni Claverie’s address book and experience to take the presidential chair in October.
It is for this reason that she was re-elected president of this political party by the congressmen for a five-year term.
“I will not be able to shy away from this difficult new fight. You can count on me. You propel me into the big leagues where I appear like a little thumb,” commented the former information minister Henri Konan Bédié.
Danièle Boni Claverie has in turn denounced regionalism and ethnicity which according to her “must be erased in order to face jurisdiction”. She also ridiculed the functioning of justice deemed “sick”.
But immediately, she assured that the URD is not a political formation animated by a spirit of revenge or revenge. Her leitmotif is to resuscitate Côte d’Ivoire and put the locomotive back on track, assures the new candidate. Gilbert Ehouman was also chosen as secretary general.
With her Daniel Boni Claverie the Ivory Coast now has seven contenders for the presidential post: Henri Konan Bédié (PDCI RDA), Pascal Affi N’Guessan (FPI), Guillaume Soro (GPS), Albert Mabri Toikeusse (UDPCI), Mamadou Koulibaly (Lider), Marcel Amon Tanoh (without label for the moment), while waiting for the candidate of the ruling RHDP party of Alassane Ouattara who has not yet been appointed.
