Cases are Climbing!
One thousand four hundred ninety-nine (1,499) cases of coronavirus confirmed during the last 24 hours in Morocco, declared by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday. The death toll increased to 556, with 23 additions captured on the last day. Moroccan officials re-established lock-down and travel restrictions in Tangier Wednesday following the recent rise in confirmed cases of Covid-19. Adopt a strict approach to the regulation of these sanitary regulations.
Abdessamad Lamrabet, Regional Secretary of the National Health Federation in Tangier, voiced some doubt about the rigidity of the Covid-19 preventive unit, “It is not usual to see the military reinforcements and the intervention of the police in the city of Tangier and, in particular, to see the military cars and the police dispatchers at the entrance to our neighborhoods, but Tangier is a lively and dynamic city.”
Strict Travel Protocols!
Public transport can run at just 50% capacity and authorized travel permits are required for individuals traveling between cities-with the authorities charging fines of 300 dirhams to any breaching social distinctions and compulsory face mask controls. In fact, all types of meetings are forbidden and the activity on the beaches is banned-with several shopping areas and non-essential companies closing at earlier hours.
On Thursday 6 August, the Moroccan authorities declared that they would extend the national state of emergency until mid-September, as the growing number of cases suggests the continued spread of coronavirus throughout the country.
The Figures!
As of Friday 7 August, 29,644 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Morocco with 449 fatalities.
Such new estimates are now in the tens of thousands since the first case in the country was identified back in March. Infections may be on the increase, but the recovery rate is still at an impressive 70%, as stated by Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health.
The transmission of the virus is expected to take place at the international level in the following months.
