Covid-19: WHO and FIFA Unite Against the Deadly Virus!

To come to terms with the Coronavirus pandemic with its Covid-19 variation and other variants, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Football Federation (FIFA) are joining forces and competing in scenarios to definitively eradicate this deadly virus.

According to these two established institutions (WHO and FIFA), football stars and captains of rival teams will promote equitable global access to vaccines, treatments and diagnostics.

To achieve this, FIFA is joining forces with the WHO to promote the need for equitable access to vaccines, treatments and diagnostics in the fight against Covid-19.

And also focus on pedagogy aimed at encouraging everyone to continue to apply life-saving public health measures on a daily basis in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and protect health.

In conjunction with the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup, to be held in Qatar from February 4 to 11, 2021, FIFA and WHO are therefore launching a public awareness campaign involving football stars.

This campaign will be carried out through the broadcasting of messages on television and in stadiums, in order to continue to promote the Device to accelerate access to tools to fight against Covid-19 (ACT Accelerator) established in April 2020.

Although barrier gestures are insufficiently understood, the campaign also aims to urge the population to wear a mask, to respect physical distancing and to practice hand hygiene.

In a videoconference ahead of the kick-off of the FIFA Club World Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino called for more action: “We must all play our part in the fight against the coronavirus. We also call on the international community to join forces (#ACTogether), and to ensure equity in access to vaccines, treatments and diagnostic tests worldwide.”

For his part, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO notes that “the principle of equity is the basis of football and all other sports, and it must be the same with regard to health”.

Showing himself much more firm and serious, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus explained that “in the fight against Covid-19, the rules are simple: all people at risk, in all countries, must have fair access vaccines, treatments and life-saving diagnostics ”.

And announcing “in just nine months, the world has put in place these three effective lines of defense against Covid-19”.

“But our goal now is to ensure equitable access and to continue to improve these tools”, also hammered the world number one in the health of the 7.8 billion inhabitants on the earth.

Acknowledging Dr Tedros added: “WHO is grateful to FIFA for partnering with partners in the health sector around the world to promote the need for a fair distribution of the tools necessary to defeat the coronavirus.”

Before thanking FIFA and the players for their contribution to raising awareness of the vital measures that everyone can apply, and stressed the importance of increased global support for the ACT Accelerator to advance the development of vaccines, treatments and tests and ensure an equitable distribution, in order to reduce the severe forms of the disease and the deaths caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

One certainty: The new collaboration between FIFA and WHO will amplify these vital messages to global audiences with a series of promotional videos that will be shown during the FIFA Club World Cup.

In the videos, rival club captains repeat the key measures and gestures that anyone can take in order to fight and defeat the coronavirus with a particular emphasis on hand hygiene, elbow, face, distancing, symptoms , masks and opening windows.

Returning to the stakes of this collaboration, FIFA President Gianni Infantino believes that “it is important to remember that health comes first. Only by following the advice of our healthcare professionals can we eliminate the threat posed by Covid-19, and I call on everyone to respect these measures on a daily basis. These tips not only protect you, but also protect those around you and those around you.

The dissemination of these messages during the FIFA Club World Cup is a support I am grateful for, which is provided by the participating teams and their players, support staff and other officials in order to enforce the protocols in place. place to play this tournament, and ensure that the flame of football continues to shine in this difficult time ”.

The awareness campaign will feature the players and coaches of the teams competing for the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020, as well as FIFA legends.

The videos will be shown on various digital channels of FIFA, WHO and clubs, with support from broadcasters around the world.
