Former President of the Ivorian National Assembly, Guillaume Soro, “vigorously context” the rejection of his candidacy for the October 31, 2020 presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.
This reaction comes after a decision of the Constitutional Council, declaring eligible four candidates for the Ivorian presidential election of October 31, 2020 and forty other candidates inadmissible.
“I vigorously context the unfair and unfounded decision taken this Monday, September 14, 2020 by the Constitutional Council“, writes Mr. Guillaume Soro on social networks. According to the decision of the Constitutional Council, not appearing on the electoral list because of conviction, his file is inadmissible.
He “considers that this is an unfair decision, politically motivated, legally lame and which is part of a logic of annihilation of democracy and the rule of law”.
For him, the Constitutional Council under Mamadou Koné, president of the institution, “has just endorsed and this without surprise the forfeiture and perjury of Mr. Alassane Ouattara consecrating the submission of the law of justice to the rule of the Rhdp (power) and its president”.
“We cannot accept this coup d’état acted by the Constitutional Council. I am announcing that we are embarking on a new stage for our country”, he declared, before adding:“it will be bitter but we will undoubtedly win it”.
Mr. Soro, in a request, maintained that “the President of the Republic, head of the executive power, interfered in the area of competence of the legislature, which alone has the capacity to legislate in electoral matters, and therefore fact, violated the Constitution which organizes the separation of powers”.
“Considering that this means cannot succeed because the contested ordinance was framed by an enabling law and a ratification law emanating from Parliament, in accordance with the provisions of article 106 of the Constitution”, observed Mr. Mamadou Koné.
The candidacies of ex-president Laurent Gbagbo as well as those of major political figures such as Mabri Toikeusse, Mamadou Koulibaly, Marcel Amon-Tanoh, Gnamien Konan were rejected for non-compliance with the electoral code.
